Picking the Perfect Toys for Your Pup
With Spring in full swing, the warmer weather makes all of us feel more playful! Toys seem like a perfect way to both treat your precious pooch and help eliminate extra energy, but with all of the different choices on the market today, it’s difficult to know what to buy. There is nothing more frustrating than buying toys your dog either tears to bits or turns his nose up at. The first step to both pleasing your pooch and rescuing your wallet from wasted purchases is to figure out what style of toys are right for your canine companion.
Balls and Flying Discs for Dogs are a great choice for pups who like to play catch. Flying discs are a good way to get your dog moving and make for an enjoyable interactive way to spend time with your pet. Rubber balls are simple to clean and are perfect for both tossing and chewing. An important safety tip to keep in mind: Always make sure that the ball you pink is not too tiny, or it could get stuck in your dog’s throat! Also, make sure that the ball is not too large as well or your dog won’t be able to pick it up.
Plush Dog Toys are great for cuddling, fetching, and carrying around. These soft toys keep the dog’s scent and usually contain squeakers for extra fun. When shopping for plush toys, it’s important to only choose toys made specifically for dogs. Generic stuffed toys can be filled with irritating fibers or Styrofoam pieces that can upset your dog’s stomach. Toys that are made for dogs don’t have this. Plush toys are often not a good option for dogs that play aggressively or tear up toys; dogs can easily tear these toys up if they try.
Rope and Tug Toys for Dogs provide abundant opportunities for fun. They come in a plethora of sizes and shapes and are excellent for fetching, chewing, teething, and tug of war games. Some dogs can tear these toys up with aggressive chewing, so if you have a rough chewer it’s important to keep an eye on your dog so that they don’t ingest the fibers.
Rubber, Latex, and Vinyl Toys for Dogs are a superb choice for chewers. These toys are wonderful for exercising dog’s mouths and jaws. These are good for non-interactive and can keep dogs occupied for hours. If your dog is an aggressive chewer, you’ll want to both supervise him and make sure that you choose a toy made of heavy duty rubber that will stand up to a lot of abuse.
Interactive Dog Toys keep smart dogs occupied. These entertaining toys dispense treats in a random pattern or when a dog makes a certain set of movements with the toy. They are terrific for keeping your dog mentally fit, in addition to physically. You might need to work with your dog to help them learn how to use these toys but the extra stimulation for your dog is worth the time invested!

National Pet Week: Celebrate Your Pets
This Sunday marked the beginning of National Pet Week, which celebrates the important role our fuzzy friends play in our lives. National Pet Week was created in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association with the intention of promoting responsible pet ownership and commemorating the special bond between pet owners and their pets. It was also created to promote public awareness of the importance of proper vet care.
While we can never repay our furry companions for the numerous joys and unconditional love they bring into our lives, this week is an ideal time to do something special for them. Here are a few ways to indulge your devoted dog:
Go Out And Play! It’s easy to get engrossed with our busy lives and forget that while we’re busy rushing around, our pets are left at home, bored and waiting. Take time this week to inject some much needed excitement to your patient pooch’s life. An excursion to the dog park, a round of fetch in the backyard, or an extended evening walk are all a great source of exercise.
Keep Your Dog Healthy! With Spring in under way and summer quickly approaching, now is a perfect time to take your dog in for a yearly check up. Flea and tick season is just getting started and these parasites are more than just an annoyance – In addition, they spread disease and cause skin problem. Heartworm prevention is necessary for this time of year. Heartworm disease causes serious illness in your pet and diagnosis and treatment are very costly – It’s far more practical and safe to prevent heartworms with medication.
Pamper Your Pup! Treat your pooch to a day at the dog spa! Routine grooming and bathing not only make for a pleasant smelling pooch, grooming can also prevent health problems. Matting of the hair causes irritation and is a breeding ground for skin infections, and besides that, excess hair in the summer time can make for one hot dog! New toys and treats are another great way to give back to your canine friend!
Save Lives! Spaying and Neutering your pets not only promotes happier, healthier lives, it also helps to improve the animal world by decreasing the number of unwanted litters and lowering the number of animals abandoned on the streets and in shelters. If you are looking for a new four legged friend, adopting a pet is a rewarding choice and helps save the life of an animal in need.
